For years, Audi has worked hard to produce cars that are able to compete with Mercedes-Benz and BMW sedans. This has not been easy given the high technology line of luxury and sports sedans from BWM and Mercedes-Benz.
However, it seems the Audi A8 has finally come of age in the 2015 Audi A8. The latest A8 is finally a legitimate rival to BMW and Mercedes Benz sedans. Just like its predecessor, the new A8 Comes with a lightweight aluminum chassis and a number of engine options including a 4.0 L Turbo Diesel inter cooler engine.
2015 Audi A8 Engine
The new A8 comes with two engine options; you can choose to the Supercharged 3.0 L V6 engine, or a 4.0 L twin turbo V8. Both are direct injection engines coupled to the final drive via an 8 Speed Auto gearbox, which can also be programmed to manual shift mode, or sports mode. All cars have an all wheel drive system for better acceleration and improved performance.
Performance and Fuel Consumption
The New Generation A8 does not disappoint when it comes to performance. The Intercooled supercharger 3.0L V6 engine produces 333 Horse Power at 5500 RPM while the Twin Turbo 4.0L V8 produces up to 435 Horsepower at 5000 RPM.
Audi has definitely worked to improve fuel economy and efficiency in both engines. The 4.0L V8 has an impressive consumption rating of 19 mph on city streets and 29 mpg on the highway while the 3.0L engine has slightly lower 18 mpg for city travels but a higher 30 mpg on the high way.
The new A8 has an upgraded shape and is slightly larger than its predecessors. It has undergone a serious upgrade such as a redesigned front and rear to give it a face lift that makes it look more futuristic.
The A8’s extended length means you get to have more interior space. The car has a number of high tech features including a hotspot powered by T-mobile. It also comes with state of the art Bang & Olufsen 1400 Watt sound system. This is an advanced system that includes 19 speakers and front cabin tweeters that emerge when the car is started.
There rear seat also has two 10.2 inch screens connected to a rear seat entertainment system that has a 20GB hard drives for storing your favourite music or video. Optional features includes a heads up display that brings your navigation info, vehicle speed and night vision information to the windscreen letting you keep your eyes on the road at all times.
Safety is one of Audi’s major considerations in the new A8 design. Safety features include an Active Lane assist that lets you know when your car is drifting off its lane. It also gently moves it back into the lane. A Side assist alert notifies you if there are any cars present or approaching when you begin to change lane.
