The 2015 Mazda CX-5 model is now in its third year of production and has been experiencing a steady climb into top charts. Although the sales volumes are still dominated by Honda’s CR-V and Toyota’s Rav4, none of them can match the additional comfort and convenience brought about by the 2015 Mazda CX-5. From fuel consumption to handling and drive panel, this is one of the best crossover SUVs available in the market.
Engine and performance
The most significant advantage that 2015 Mazda CX-5 has over other SUVs is its low fuel consumption. It comes in 2 (for front wheel drive models) and 2.5 (for four wheel models) liter SKYACTIV engines. EPA (environmental protection agency) rated this crossover on 35 mpg (miles per gallon) highway drive and 26 mpg on city drive.
This is perhaps the only crossover SUV that still offers manual transmission with 6 different speed levels. It has both front wheel and four wheel drives and can achieve up to 65 mph in less than 10 seconds. The four cylinder 2.0 liter engine produces up to 155 lb-ft torque and 150 horsepower while the 2.5 liter engine produces 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft torque.
Interior and Exterior
The 2015 Mazda CX-5 has various ergonomic and convenient interior features that have led to its growing reputation. Mazda finally included a keyless entry and ignition for the Grand Touring and Touring trim models.
Interior features include air conditioning, rear fold seats, audio USB input, cloth upholstery seats, four stereo speakers and AM/FM/CD stereo radio for entertainment. There are various small items holding spaces and cargo compartment.
The driver can also access a trip computer multi-information screen and the smooth telescopic steering. Safety features include antilock brakes, airbags and 60 mph cut-off speed in 121 feet. The laser sensors can detect any stationary object in front of the car and aid braking at speeds up to 19mph.
The exterior comes in three different trims namely Grand Touring, Touring and Sports. External features include privacy windows with locks, auto-off headlights, front and rear intermittent wipers
Release date and price
The 2015 Mazda CX-5 was unveiled late last year at the International Motor Show held in Johannesburg, SA. Prices for the different trims are as follows; Sports are sold for $22,375.00 and $25,025.00 fro front wheel (FWD) and all-wheel (AWD) drives respectively. Touring models are sold at $25,795.00 (FWD) and $27,045.00 (AWD) while Grand Touring trims are for $ 28,800.00 (FWD) and $30,050.00 (AWD).
2015 Mazda CX-5 Conclusion
Mazda CX-5 for 2015 is their third release and still offers manual transmission, sufficient spacing and comfort. The low fuel engine capacity may not be quite attractive although its fuel-efficiency is very remarkable and worth the price.
